BIOMASS POWER: A 'GREEN' ENERGY OPTION -
for Electricity, Energy Services and Employment
Generation
better known as DESI Power is dedicated to the socio-economic development
of rural India through provision of electricity and energy services
in villages. The current focus of DESI Power is the promotion of
decentralised rural power plants using renewable energy sources
and setting up of agro-based micro enterprises through EmPower Partnership
Programs in villages. In addition DESI Power has built decentralised
power stations for supplying electricity to industries and technical
institutions. DESI Power's business
model involves building and operating biomass gasification based
power plants in direct association with local partners and later
on transferring the plant to the partner under mutually agreed terms.
The local partner may be a NGO, a Panchayat, a co-operative body
or an industry, actively involved in these projects right from the
beginning.
The EmPower
Partnership Programs help in setting up micro enterprises owned
and managed by local village organisations. A number of power plants
and the linked micro enterprises in neighbouring villages form a
cluster having an intrinsic relationship between them, providing
mutual support and markets with for survival as well as growth.
The successful implementation of the model fulfils the long cherished
dream of DESI Power to help in uplifting the socio-economic environment
of rural India and act as a trend setter towards the creation of
a new growth map of rural India.
